I had to tell a writing buddy that i hated the name of her character, Sean. It wasn’t so much the name as the spelling. I have a Yvonne at work too, pronounced Evon. Why cant they be spelt how they sound? Parents these days insist on changing the spelling of names to make them individual…why? All this does is make them harder to spell, that kid will have to spell their name to everyone for the rest of their lives. No that’s Amy spelt Aimiee…why!

This goes for characters too. If i cant pronounce it, i don’t like it, Hermoine anyone? Stick with the basics, Fabio, Edwardo, Bill. All perfectly good names, spelt how they sound. And no naming characters similar names too. There is nothing more frustrating when speed reading then having to stop and double check who is taking their top off.
